Hotties!!

Yes, I forgot how much different Summer runs are compared to our other runs. Don’t get me wrong. I still rather run during the Summer time than Winter hands down. But when we are trying to fit in everything else that is going on these last couple months and our training, it can get kind of tough. During the week we’ve been meeting my sisters for their training and then running the other days for our training. We usually go at about 6 pm which isn’t too bad but you can still feel a huge difference in our performance. I still haven’t thrown a fit about how hot it is and quit running. I’ve done that before :) They have been my fault though, because I don’t get my butt out there earlier in the morning or later in the evening. Our San Diego 1/2 is in the beginning of June so we won’t really have to deal with the July heat. Those can be brutal. We have a month to go and we are both super excited about this race. We’ve been wanting to run it for a very long time. I’m considering in ot wearing my Garmin, we both decided we didn’t want time to be our focus for this race. I haven’t decided yet though, I like knowing my calories :) Maybe I can wear it on my ankle. hee hee.

To help prepare for our longer runs I went and bought some supplies the other day.

I’ve been wanting to try the Stinger Waffles for a while and it was so delicious. Not sure if it helped with energy though. The Short Bloks and PowerBar Chews are still my favorite. We also bought some Nuun to go with our new hand-held water bottles. Craig is really loving that stuff.

Craig got the black one and I got the pink one. Can’t wait to try these babies out on our next run. I got mine in the mail today :) They will definitely help with these long hotter runs. The park we go to has fountains but the water is a little warm. I read really good reviews about these. I really like that it has a little pocket too.

Today I also went to pick up my Bountiful Basket. Love getting this. Every time I know I have a free morning on a Saturday then I make sure to order it.

After picking up my fruit/veggies I met my sisters for our run. The Night Run race is next Saturday!! I can’t wait to show you our outfits :)

Then I met my mom for a movie date. We watched The Avengers and we both LOVED it. How could you not love that movie with all these hotties!!

Hope you have a good weekend. I’m about to go have some carne asada tacos and watch the fight with my family and friends :)

Betty

We are half way there peeps.

I have some exciting news!!!

We just booked our vacation to San Francisco in July!! Yay!! We had planned to go to Yosemite National Park for our “main” vacation this year but we changed it. We were both a little sad to change it because we were really looking forward to it but we’ll just have to go some other time :) Plus we have our Grand Canyon hiking trip in September so we will for sure get our hike on this year.

We are really looking forward to San Francisco, we’ve been wanting to go for a long time. I do have a confession, I think I’ve mentioned it before but….

I’ve NEVER flown before!!!

SAY WHAT?!!

Yup..never. As a kid we always drove everywhere. I love road trips so when we plan our trips we always plan on driving but this time we are flying. I’m a “flight virgin” haha. The flight is only 2 hours so I don’t think it’s long enough for me to freak out. Nice way to dip my toes into the water ;) I can’t wait!! We have so much we want to do while we are there.

Question: If you’ve been to San Francisco…what is a MUST do there?

This week I also bought my ticket to go see Kelly Clarkson in concert this August!! I’ve seen her twice now and I’m super excited to see her again.

Also here is our Warrior Dash video.

Warrior Dash 2012

You’re going to think I’m a huge wimp because I was scared to slide down and 2 men had to hold my legs in order for me to slide. But I saw people getting injured. haha. Hope you enjoy my wimpy face.

Have a good evening!! We are about to leave for our run.

Betty

First of all……..I LOVED WARRIOR DASH!!!!

It was SO much fun. I can’t wait to do it again next year.

Our start time was 2:30 pm. We waited too long to register and got a later time than Craig had last year. It was 98 degrees when we started. It was CALIENTE!! No joke but we were still super excited, especially me because it was my first time.

We got our bibs, Warrior hat things and our shirts. I really liked the shirts this year, I think they’re better than last year ;) We changed into them after the run.

Putting on our sunblock so we prevent some leathery skin.

I think it was a lot bigger this year or maybe because it was later there was a lot of people just hanging out.

I was happy that both my sisters came to cheer us on.

Here’s some of the cheering I talked about.

My sister wearing her Firefly run shirt :) She got excited when some people talked to her about the Firefly run because they ran it too.

My triple chin and my peeps. haha. Family picture.

I was fine until 15 minutes before it started. I was really nervous about the heat and some of the obstacles that we saw on our walk to the start. I love being a little nervous though, makes it exciting.

Warrior Horns!!! Craig wore the Go Pro camera on his chest so you know I’ll have a video to share in a couple of days :)

We also carried a camera with us so there’s a mix of pictures my sisters took and that we took on the course.

The first obstacle was running through some tires that were hanging down and moving everywhere. The second was this wall, this was one of the obstacles I saw that made me nervous. Once I started going up it though I was fine…until I reached the top and didn’t want to go down the other side. haha.

We were only passed the 2nd obstacle but my mouth and throat were SO dry.

The 4th obstacle was going over 3 sets of 2 cars and there was tires in between the cars.

When I landed after the last car I heard something make a noise in my left leg and it was hurting a bit. Nothing too crazy but it was uncomfortable.

I hope they really don’t tell anyone. haha.

These two were the hardest obstacles for me. The reason the top one was hard for me is I was trying to use my upper body to lift myself up instead of being smart and use my legs instead.

And the reason this one was hard for me is because I started off by crawling on my knees and it was hurting my shins. Then I saw how Craig was doing it and copied him. ;) Why didn’t I think of using my feet to go across?! ay

There was 2 water stations. Craig said they only had 1 last year but I think they added another one because of the heat…not sure. I grabbed 2 cups the first station and 3 cups at the second station. I was SO thirsty plus I used my leftover water to cool myself down a bit.

At a few of the obstacles we would have to wait for our turn. Everyone was really friendly and helping each other out. At this tight rope the person that just crossed would hold the ropes for the person coming after you to make the ropes a little more steady. It was a huge help to have someone hold the ropes a little. I didn’t see anyone fall in.

This was one of my favorite obstacles because it felt awesome jumping into that water. It was hard to see with the water spraying down on you when you were trying to climb up though. When you reach the other side you have to slide down and I didn’t want to. haha. Craig went ahead of me to help me when I had to slide and he landed on his wrist and sprained it. It’s a little swollen today.

The obstacle I was dreading the most was jumping over the fire. I know…lame. But last year I saw a few people stop right before jumping and it made it harder for them to jump over and I saw a girl burn her leg so it scared me. I decided to not think and just do. It ended up being one of the easiest obstacles. Maybe because Craig prepped me for it before the race. haha.

The mud pit was AWESOME!!!! I didn’t know I liked getting dirty but I guess I do.

Since Craig hurt his wrist right before the mud pit he couldn’t use both arms to get through and had to move using one.

As soon as we crossed the finish line I went for my medal and water.

3.28 miles and 13 obstacles later we were Warrior Dash finishers :)

I made my sister an honorary warrior. haha. She was really worried about having mud on her because we were going to dinner afterwards. We gave her a hard time about it because she barely had any on her.

Mud kiss ;)

The mud dried fast and it hurt to move so we quickly got ourselves to the wash off area. The water was hard and we kept laughing.

I had the best time even though we ended up a little injured. Craig has talked about doing Spartan next but I wanted to see how this one went first and I’m actually considering it. This was in no way our best time for a race but it was one of the funnest (not a word) races I’ve done. Taking a shower after dinner was very much necessary and I had mud in places I never thought I could. haha.

Thank You Craig for convincing me that I could be a warrior too :) And thanks to my sisters for putting up with the heat to cheer us on. Love you.

$45 Richer

Hi!!

So….we ended up running on our Vegas trip :) Yup, we got there late Friday night and of course went to sleep late because we were in Vegas. We always wake up early even if we went to sleep late so we took advantage of it and went running. It was awesome. The weather was perfect in the morning and there were a lot of runners out. The only ugh thing about it was the stairs. UGH!! My legs were a little shaky when we got back. But it prepared me for Warrior Dash which is today so that’s good. We ended up doing 3.5 miles.

I didn’t take my camera so I have sucky phone pictures to share.

On our way back we stopped inside the Bellagio Garden since I knew we wouldn’t have a chance later to check it out. This is one of my favorite things in Las Vegas.

So pretty.

We were glad we still went on our run even though we were so sleepy by the end of that night. Oh well.

After our run we went to breakfast then met our friends for the SURPRISE. Our friend didn’t know all her friends were going to be there. She thought it was just her and her husband but her husband arranged everyone to be there so he could ask her to marry him again!! It was really nice. And she was so surprised. After he asked and she of course said yes we all went out to lunch. Then it was time for the girls to have our own time.

You know…take some Jello Shots, go shopping for matching wrist bands ;)

And just be silly. It was a good time.

After that we all headed to our rooms to get ready for the wedding.

Then it was time to go :) Her best friend in the pink brought her dress with her so it’s her actual wedding dress that she used the first time.

The girls took the limo and the guys drove separately in a truck. The wedding ceremony was beautiful. We all ended up going to dinner afterwards.

Then we all hung out :)

In the morning Craig and I headed down for a quick breakfast and some gambling.

Yeah baby!!! I put in a $20 and cashed out at $65. We played for a while too. I love the slot machines, I won’t play more than $20 though, sometimes I can play for a long time and sometimes it’s gone in a few minutes. haha.

Those $45 came in handy when we walked to the M&M store later that day.

I got some stuff for my fam and some treats for me and Craig :)

There were a lot more pictures…of course but I already made this way too long with pictures.

It’s time for me to get ready for Warrior Dash!!! Eeeeek. This is my first time, Craig ran it last year and loved it so here I go. We are running it together, I hope I get muddy!!!

Here we come!!!

Vegas Baby Vegaaaaas!!!

We are leaving today right after work to Sin City! We both are getting off from work a little early for our mini road trip. Somehow Las Vegas always creeps into our vacation plans every single year and we don’t mind it at all. ;) This weekend it’s for a wedding and we are going to have a blast. We might squeeze in a little run on Saturday morning on the strip BUT that is a HUGE maybe. I’ll let you know….

Before I leave I wanted to share with you the video Craig put together of our Firefly Run.  So please check it out :)

 Firefly Run Video

I still haven’t figured out why I’m not able to add the video on my posts anymore.

Have a GREAT weekend everyone!!!

Say WHAT Wednesday!

I know that not everyone loves her…..

Source

But when I first heard this I got really excited about it. Since the first time I heard it they’ve said that it wasn’t going to happen then again it was going to happen. This morning though on my way to work I heard that it is almost FINAL that she will be on X Factor!!!

Brit Brit on X Factor

SAY WHAT?!!!!!

I didn’t really follow the show the last time but the times I did watch I thought it was pretty good. If Brit Brit does get on the show then I will for sure watch it. I know what a lot of people say…she doesn’t sing, she doesn’t dance like she used to and so on but I still enjoy her music. So I’m pretty pumped about this.

Do you follow any of the singing shows?

Out of all the singing shows I think we watch American Idol the most. I’ve watched some of the Voice and some of X Factor though.

The other day my friend and I were talking about good fitness deals we’ve gotten and about how many free fitness related things there is to do. She asked me to write this post with a few links that have been helpful to me. When I first started working out a few years ago I didn’t know that there was  so many things that were available to us and now there is even more. I use Groupon, Livingsocial and Schwaggle quite a bit. I’ve found some really good fitness class deals and even deals for local runs.

Here are some places that offer good deals or places for a fun class. These are in AZ but if you know of something near you that you’ve tried and loved then share it with us too. :)

Yoga in the Park

Join Lululemon Athletica in Center Lawn of the Biltmore Fashion Park for their FREE yoga in the park series

I’ve also gotten a few free yoga videos from yogadownload.com

Most yoga studios offer a free class too. When I first tried Bikram Yoga I got 2 weeks unlimited for $10.

Running

Running is free :) But sometimes we don’t know where to go or how to track our distance. I usually go to nearby parks that I love but  know that SRP also has a lot of trails that can be used for running, walking or riding your bike.

SRP Canal map

SRP Canal trails

The link also provides a helpful calculator for the distance.

For running without a gps I used to use Mapmyrun or I also have Cardio Trainer app on my phone. Both are easy to use and free :)

Other types of classes I’ve taken:

I Love LOVE Zumba. I’ve been to a lot of locations and gyms. If you go click on this link you can enter your location and it will provide Zumba classes near you.

Talking about gyms. Most gyms offer a free 2 week pass which I think is cool because you get to see if you like it before having to enter a contract.

Boxing- I had been wanting to try a “real” boxing class for a real long time and found LA Boxing. I was able to take a free class by going on their website and printing out my pass. I know they have a lot of locations. I had a lot of fun and it was definitely a good workout.

Same with Crossfit. When I was looking for a class near me I found a few locations and they all offered a free class.

Hiking…usually always free and always FUN :) You could use the Cardio Trainer to track your distance and I know there are a lot of hiking apps to help you find trails near you.

It’s easy to get stuck in a workout rut and it’s fun to try out new classes. I like doing that once in a while. Especially if it’s free ;)

Question: Do you have a helpful app that you would like to share?

What’s the best fitness class deal you’ve ever bought?
